The 10 Most Beautiful Sights of Southeast Asia

In addition to the cheap prices that you find there, the wonderful weather and the nice atmosphere, the many sights are also an important reason that so many travelers go to Southeast Asia. Seeing all these sights is already a time-consuming job, let alone in one trip. We have listed the ten favorite sights in Southeast Asia for you. Try to see as many of these highlights as possible during your trip!
1. Angkor Wat
As far as we are concerned, Angkor Wat is the highlight of Southeast Asia. It is the largest religious structure in the world. Besides Angkor Wat there are many other temples on the Angkor complex. So much so that you can easily spend a few days there to see all the temples. The number five on our list is also on this complex, located near Siem Reap in Cambodia.
2. Bagan
Bagan is not just one building, but a large collection of impressive temples. The no less than 4000 temples – and no small temples – are especially beautiful from a higher position. The temples of Bagan are in Myanmar, which means that they are visited much less than the other sights on this list.
3. Borobodur
In the middle of Java is the nice city of Yogyakarta. Just outside this city you will find the Borobodur temple. The temple has been “lost” for centuries, hidden in the dense vegetation of the jungle. It has since been completely restored. Fortunately, because it is beautiful to see.
4. Ayutthaya
Be sure to plan a day to see the ruins of Ayutthaya. In this city you see a collection of destroyed temples, which makes it a unique and impressive destination. Perhaps the highlight is Wat Mahathat, with the distinctive Buddha statue in a tree.
5. Ta Prhom
Just like our number one, Ta Phrom is located at the Angkor complex. Ta Phrom is also known as the Tomb Raider temple, because a scene of the film was recorded there. The special thing about Ta Prohm is that the jungle has grown right through and over the temple. A tree that grows over a temple certainly produces unique pictures.
6. Halong Bay
Halong Bay is the only attraction in this list that is not made by people. But the landscape – which is named as one of the seven natural wonders of the world – definitely belongs in this list. There are thousands of uniquely shaped rocks in the bay, a wonderful phenomenon. The best experience a Halong Bay cruise through the bay.
7. Shwedagon Pagoda
The Shwedagon Pagoda is located in Yangon, the capital of Myanmar. The pagoda is no less than 98 meters high and made of more than 50,000 kilos of gold leaf. Moreover, the pagoda is also covered with thousands of – very expensive – precious stones.
8. Tanah Lot
The Tanah Lot Temple is located on the popular island of Bali. The temple itself is not that special, but it is mainly the location that makes it unique. Tanah Lot is on a rock in the sea. You can only walk to the temple if it is low tide. Once you have done this, you can walk back and watch the sun go down behind the temple on a terrace. One of the most beautiful sunsets that you will see in your life.
9. Temples in Bangkok
It is difficult to choose the most beautiful temple in Bangkok. We have chosen the easiest option to list the temples as a group on this list. This is not surprising, since the nicest temples are quite close to each other. You can easily visit them in one afternoon. Perhaps the most impressive temple is Wat Pho. Herein lies the lying golden statue of Buddha, no less than 46 meters long and 15 meters high!
10. Petronas Twin Towers
The only modern attraction on this list are the Petronas Twin Towers. These iconic buildings are located in the center of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. Be sure to go upstairs for a great view of the city.
