Poon Hill Trek: Everything You Need to Know Before You Plan One

When to go for a Poon Hill trek?
Poon Hill trek is one of those treks that you are undertaking throughout the year. Nevertheless, depending on the weather, the views will not be clearer. Generally, most trekkers prefer going for Poon Hill trek between Sep-Nov and March-May.
The weather between Sep-Nov is comfortable and moderate. The beauty of the trek is at its best and the sky is clear and bright. Well, of course, since this is the most recommended time to trek in Poon Hill, it is quite crowded.
Next, March-May is also a good time for Poon Hill trek. However, the climate is warmer, and the sky is foggy.
Starting and ending the trek
Just like any other trek, there are many alternatives of starting and ending the Poon hill trek. However, the most famous alternative is driving from Pokhara and arriving to Nayapul. The road conditions are good, and you will approximately take 2 hours to cover the entire distance of 45.5 km.
You can travel via private car or taxi, or can take a local bus. Local transportations leave every hour from Pokhara. A bus ride will cost just about US$ 2, compared to a hired taxi which will charge you US$ 35 approximately.
Usually, the trek is ended with a drive from Ghandruk to Pokhara. Again, you can choose to travel by bus or personal taxi or van as per your preference. Bus fare is about US$ 5 per person for one ride.
What is best – Solo or Group trek?
When we talk about Poon Hill trek, both the options, going solo or going with a group, are equally good. Just like anything else, both has its own pros and cons and can deliver absolutely different types of experience.
Many trekkers prefer going solo in Nepal, and the treks are perfectly manageable. Also, since you are the one planning the trek, you can make some last moment alternations and no one is going to object. However, on the downside, you will have to manage all the permits, transportation, accommodation, etc. by yourself.
On the other hand, if you have a guide, you will have someone to accompany you in case of anything going wrong. Your guide and porter will take care of the luggage, and all you can concentrate on is the scenic beauty of this wonderful trek.
Comparatively Poon Hill trek is an easy trek, but that doesn’t mean you can go there unprepared.
