Historically, this city dates back to the 7th Century, when the Epidaurum refugees founded the town, Ragusa. The town was mostly under the protection of the Byzantine Empire. Later the town came under the sovereignty of the Republic of Venice. Dubrovnik was a free state between the 14th to 19th Centuries. It was only due to the maritime trade that the city had become prosperous. It is also known as the Capital of the maritime, the Ragusa Republic. Plus, it was during the 15th to 16th Century that it achieved the development of a very high level.

Skilled Diplomacy of Dubrovnik – 

Another reason for the popularity of Dubrovnik is that it became known for its wealth and for its diplomacy which was skilled. It is also known for becoming the cradle of literature (Croatian). The city has also faced an earthquake during the year 1667. When the Napoleonic War was there the city of Dubrovnik was occupied like captured by the French Empire forces, then the Ragusa Republic was abolished and later it was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy Napoleonic and then inside the Illyrian provinces. Then in the 19th to 20th Century, Dubrovnik was a connected portion of the Kingdom of Dalmatia that too inside the Austrian Empire. Upon its creation, it became a part of Yugoslavia and it was combined in Banovina in 1929 before it got combined with Banovina of Croatia on its inception in 1939.

Recurrence of Dubrovnik – 

Axis puppet state was an independent state of Croatia, which was a part of Dubrovnik during World War II, before being combined with SR Croatian in SFR Yugoslavia. During the Croatian War of Independence, in the year 1991, the Yugoslav People’s Army plagued Dubrovnik for around 7 months due to which it suffered much damage from the shelling. But it underwent restoration and repair in the year 1990s and the year 2000 and it then re-emerged successfully as one of the Mediterranean’s top tourist destinations and also one of the most popular filming locations.
